Terms of Use
Updated October 4, 2026
Shatl is a free, open-source torrent client for Mac. It is developed by Igor Mamontov (Mamontov Design). By using the app or this website, you agree to these terms.
License
Shatl’s source code is distributed under the GNU GPL 3.0. You may use, study, change, and distribute it, including in modified form, under the terms of the GPL. Where these terms and the GPL differ regarding the code, the GPL applies. Components by other authors (libtorrent, Sparkle, OpenSSL, Boost) are distributed under their own licenses. They are listed in the repository.
No warranty
Shatl is provided “as is,” without any warranty, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the extent permitted by law, the author is not liable for data loss, damage, or other consequences of using the app. Keep backups of important files.
Lawful use
Shatl is a tool for the BitTorrent protocol. It does not host, search for, or offer torrents. You decide what to download and share, and you are responsible for it. Download and share only what you have the right to: freely distributed files, your own material, or files shared with the rights holder’s permission.
Where to download
The official sources are this website and github.com/mamontov-design/Shatl. Builds from other places may have been modified. The app is not signed with an Apple Developer ID certificate or notarized by Apple, so macOS asks for permission at first launch. Updates are signed, and the app checks the signature before installing them.
Name and logo
The Shatl name, logo, and app icon belong to Mamontov Design. The GPL grants rights to the code, but not to them. A modified version must have a different name and must not be presented as official. See the brand and trademark policy for details. Apple, Mac, and macOS are trademarks of Apple Inc. Shatl is an independent project and is not affiliated with Apple Inc.
Privacy
What data is sent and where is described in the Privacy Policy.
Changes
A new version of these terms will appear on this page with a new date. If you keep using Shatl after a change, you agree to the new version.
